"But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose.  If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts yet one body."  1 Corinthians 12: 18-20

"...But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.  If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."  1 Corinthians 12: 24-26

Paul continues to write to the Christians in Corinth about the church and how we should live as Christians in community with other believers.  If you read 1 Corinthians 12; Paul uses the analogy of the body as a description of what the church should be like.  All the parts of the body are needed to be healthy and functioning the right way.  The body is made up of visible things and things that no one else sees, but is needed to the healthy functioning of the body.  The whole body is not just the eyes, ears, mouth, but the body is made up of internal organs that no one ever sees but is really more important to the health of the body.

This is the way the church should be functioning as well.  God has placed all of us in the church, as He sees fit.  God has created us to be connected in a local church so that we can fulfill His purpose and plan for our lives in the kingdom of God.  We need one another in the church!  We all have different functions, purposes, gifting, but God is the one that places us where He wants us to be.  The church is never about one person, but the entire church!

When a body is functioning properly, it will be healthy!  When a church is functioning properly as a body, the church will be healthy.

Why does God want HIS Church healthy?

* Because there is no more destructive thing in the body or in the church than division.  A divided church is a real problem.  Look at the problems in our nation, city, and many families, that are divided!  This is what is going on sadly even in the church today, because we are addicted to self, power and control.  How many remember the saying:  "United we stand and divided we fall."  That is what is happening in our nation today!  The church needs to repent of our division, so that we can be healthy and functioning as God desires His church to be today.

* A divided church can not love and care for one another.  We see this everywhere today, from our marriages, families, church, city and our nation.  We are so divided that we do not care about anyone.  We need to be united so that we can function properly and be healthy.

* A divided church cannot minister to anyone!  "If one suffers, we suffer together, and if one is honored, all rejoice together."  That is unity, that it is not about us, but about the whole!  Sadly, even in the church we talk about my ministry, my gifting, my, my, my.

When we should be talking about His Church, and what we can do to benefit His Church!

Today, Lord help me to do everything I can to be a healthy and functioning part of the Body of Christ, the Church!  In the divided world that we live in today, we need the Church to be united, so that we can be the light of the world!
