"Love never ends....." 1 Corinthians 13: 8
"So now faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13
Love is what makes the world go around. Love is the real answer for every marriage, family, friendship, church, city and nation. But what is the love that Paul is writing to the church. Paul wrote to the church that love is the greatest. In English we have only one meaning for the word love, but in the Greek they had three words for love. Eros love was the sexual form of love. Phileo is the brotherly kind of love. Agape love is the love that God has for us, it is unconditional love, and that is the love that God has for mankind.
When you think of God's love, His love never ends. He loved us when we were born with a sinful nature, He loves us before we accepted Him, He loves the sinner as much as He loves the follower of Jesus. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." I am thankful that God loves me. If God loves me then we need to love others with His love.
Paul says if you want to understand the Christian life: "So faith, hope and love abide, but the greatest of these is love." We need all three in our lives and they are all important. We need faith in Jesus Christ for our salvation. We need faith because without faith it is impossible to please God.
We all need hope! Can you really be a Christian without hope in Jesus Christ?
We all need love; knowing that God loves me, I need to love myself, so that I can love others.
All three are needed to walk a healthy Christian, but Paul says the greatest of these is love. Lord help me to life a life of faith, a life of hope and a life of love. Help me to love You, love myself and love others, because love is the greatest thing that our world still needs today!
