"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.  Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.  It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for He gives to His beloved sleep."  Psalm 127: 1-2

The Psalmist is heading towards Jerusalem which is a long climb to reach the temple, the place of God.  They are about halfway up the mountain.  How many of has have gone through being on a journey halfway.  You know you have to keep going, because you are in the middle.  This is when a journey, project, can become discouraging, because you are not farther along then you thought you would be.

No one likes being halfway, or in the middle!  When I fly I do not want to be in the middle seat on a plane.  Over these last 11 weeks in this pandemic, we feel like we are in the middle, because we do not know when we will get back to any normalcy in our lives.

But the Psalmist tells us - that when we are at the end of our strength, and do not feel like we can go any further in the journey, then we need to LOOK TO THE LORD FOR HIS HELP IN THE JOURNEY OF LIFE.

* The Psalmist talks about a builder building a house.  If you have been in the process of working on a home, you know that it never goes as quick as you would like.  How many of us are trying to build a life for ourselves and our family.  Unless we allow the Lord to build our lives, marriages and our families, it will all be in vain.  "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain."  Without the Lord we will never be able to build our spiritual house!

* The Psalmist talks about a watchman watching over the city.  We are seeing this in cities all around the country over the last few days.  We saw the tragic murder of George Floyd, and the arrest of the policeman that committed this horrible situation.

However, we seeing the destruction of many cities in our nation because there are no watchmen watching over the city.

Riots, looting, and chaos in our cities.  The Psalmist tells us - "Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain."  The only hope for our city and the cities of our world is help from the Lord!  We need to invite Jesus back into our cities, towns, and villages. "Unless the Lord watches over the city...."  Lord watch over our cities today!!!!  Lord we need Your help today in our nation!

* The Psalmist talks about a laborer working and working trying to fix our situations.  "It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for He gives to His beloved rest."  When we allow the Lord to build us, and we walk with Him in faith, trust and obedience then we do not have to live a life of anxiety.  When we walk with Him, then He gives us His Presence, His Peace, His Power and His Provision in our daily lives.  We can rest because we know that the Lord is in control!

Lord, help me to know that all of my help comes from You!  "You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble."

Connecting with you,

Pastor Ron
