“Many time He delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes and were brought low through their iniquity. Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress, when he heard their cry. For their sake He remembered His covenant, and relented according to the abundance of His steadfast love. Psalm 106: 43-45

In Psalm 106 - the Psalmist gives us a history lesson of the people of Israel. Many times we look back and glamorize the good old days. But the Psalmist shows us in the history of Israel their sins, failures and rebellion, so that we can learn from their mistakes. How many parents have told their kids to learn from the mistakes of their parents. This is what the Psalmist is doing here in Psalm 106.

He gives the history of Egypt, the Red Sea, Moses, and from the Wilderness, so that we may learn from their mistakes and avoid those same failures in our spiritual journey.

* The Lord delivered them over and over, but because of their rebellious choices they were defeated by their sin. What they were really doing is making themselves better than God. That we do what we want, instead of doing what God commands us to do. Life is all about choices - and every one of us has a choice to obey God or do what we want. God is a delivering God and will forgive us of our sins, but our choices will always have consequences. That is why Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these other things shall be added unto you."

* In spite of our sin, rebellion and bad choices the Lord, looks upon us and our situation, when we cry out to Him. I am thankful that the Lord is there to help us when we cry out to Him and confession and prayer. You may have made some sinful choices, rebelled against God and His Word and now you are in trouble. But if we cry out to the Lord, He will come and deliver us! Why not start crying out to the Lord, who can come and help you, instead of crying out to people?

* The Lord remembers His covenant that He has made to us, and He will minister to us because of the abundance of HIs steadfast love. God forgives and His love is steadfast. God wants nothing more than relationship with us, because of His great love for us. "For God so loved the world (you and me) that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in His should never perish but have everlasting life."

So today, Lord help me to learn the lesson that to make the right choices that line up to God's Word!
