We read in Psalm 13 - "How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed over him," lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken."

"But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me." Psalm 13: 1-6

David teaches us what to do when we do not think that we can handle one more thing. This is what this world is going through right now. We are at a place where we do not know how long we can handle all that we are going through.

When we go through things the first question we usually ask is Why? But then afterwards we begin to ask the question that David asks: "How long?"

David asks the Lord - "How long will you forget me?" How many of us feel that when we go through overwhelming circumstances in life that God has forgotten us? If God really loved me, how could He not do something? Is God asleep on the job? Has God forgotten about us?

But God's Word tells us that He has not forgotten about us: Jesus said in Luke 12: 6-7 - "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, you are of more value than many sparrows."

David asks: "How long will you hide your face from me?" David is saying to the Lord with all that is going on that I do not sense your presence. How many of us feel that when we are going through difficult circumstances that the Lord is no longer with us. We may feel that but that does not make it true. The Lord tells us - "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

David asks: "How long must I sorrow and be sad?" How many of us just feel sad in all that is going on with this Covid-19 virus? Sad that we can not do lives as we usually do. Sad that we can not be with family and friends? We feel a sense of loss and grief over life. This is when we need to put on a "Garment of Praise for a spirit of heaviness."

David asks: "How long am I going to be in this situation?" If you know that you are going to go through something for a week or two you can endure it, because you know there is an end date. But we do not know when this pandemic will be over and we ask "How much longer?"

But David turns the How Longs - Hallelujahs!

David says - "But I trust in your steadfast love." We need to thank that the Lord for His steadfast love in our lives today!

David says - "I will rejoice in Your salvation." Thank the Lord that we have a hope of heaven! That we know that we are saved and headed to heaven.

David says - "I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me." God is and will be faithful to supply, strengthen and support us day by day!

Lord today turn my "How longs" into "Hallelujah's!"
