I want to encourage you to read Psalm 136 today over a cup of coffee and allow these great words to minister to you. "His steadfast love endures forever." We see these words 26 times in this one Psalm.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever." Psalm 136:1
"It is He who remembered us in our low estate, for His steadfast love endures forever; and rescued us from our foes, for His steadfast love endures forever; He who gives food to all flesh, for His steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever." Psalm 136: 23-26
The Psalmist wants us to realize how much God loves us even when life is difficult. We need to know that God is good and that God loves us today. This is a message that God wants us to know in all that we are going through in this world today.
The world is being torn apart by division, hatred, injustice, lack of love. We need to remember God's love endures forever! God is love! If God is love then as His followers we should be all about loving God and loving people!
J.B. Philips said, "God's love can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else is fallen."
Over the last three months we have seen so many things that we were trusting in have fallen apart. We first say how quickly our lives changed with a virus, that shut down the world. We were told to shelter in our homes, and we saw the tragic consequences of this virus. Sickness, loved ones who passed away, and fear of the virus. We saw our schools, churches and business shut down for three months already. We have seen the best of man and we have seen the worst of man. We have seen the tragic death of George Floyd, and so many others. Over the last number of nights, we have seen our city and so many other cities, being torn apart because of the condition of the human heart.
We need a reminder of God's love. "For His steadfast love endures forever." If we are His children then we need that kind of love today!
1 John 3: 16-18 clearly tells us - "By this we know love that Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's good and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."
God does not just say the words, "I Love You." He demonstrated HIs love for us by sending His Son to die on the Cross. We need to demonstrate His love by us loving people!
Lord, help us to remember that Your love is steadfast, and that we would live this out in our homes, families, in our city and in our world. "For God so loved the world that He gave...." Help me to be a giver of your love to those I come in contact with today.
