"Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that You have done; I ponder the work of Your hands. I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for the you like a parched land." Psalm 143: 4-6

In Psalm 143: David is going through a difficult time and he is discouraged and we see in these verses that he is spiritually dry, weak, faint and empty. How many of us have felt this way over the last three months. We just feel spiritually dry, emotionally empty, and running low in our strength?

David says my spirit faints within me, and my heart is empty! We probably have all been there, and it is a difficult place to be when you feel faint, weak and empty in your life on the inside. When we get that this place: What can we do?

* David says - "I remember the days of old...." We need to look back and see the faithfulness of God in our past. Our past is a story of God's working in our lives, His faithfulness in our lives even when we were not serving Him. When we face something today, or are worried about tomorrow, then we need to look back and remember the faithfulness of God! Because the Lord is the "God of all of our days!"

* David meditates on all that the Lord has done in His life! There is an old song we use to sing: "Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done." We need to mediate how the Lord has come through for us in the past. How the Lord saved us! How the Lord baptized us in the Holy Spirit! How God used His church to mold us, encourage us, strengthen us and use us for His purposes. How the Lord healed us in the past! How the Lord protected us from situations in our lives! How the Lord provided for us in those difficult times. Begin to meditate on what the Lord has done, and allow Him to fill your empty tank spiritually, emotionally and even physically!

* David says: I stretch out my hands to You! David says when you are discouraged, empty, dry then: "Lift up your hands in surrender to the Lord." Surrender all your emotions, feelings, discouragement, stress, problems and mostly your life to the Lord! Surrender to Him and then keep your hands lifted up and begin to worship the Lord with all that is within you. How many of us are weak because we are trying to control our lives and everyone else's! Lord, today, I surrender all of me, my family, my job, my situations, my finances, my body, my goals to You! Surrender is needed for the Lord to strengthen us.

* David says: "My soul thirsts for you like a parched land." We need to go after the Lord, His living water to come and quench our thirsty souls. If you are dry, then we need to go and drink of His presence. David said in Psalm 42:1. "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God."

Lord, I am thankful that You are there for me, but I need to do my part in seeing you fill me, renew me, encourage me by doing what David did in his life. Today, I do not have to faint, and be weak, but I can encourage myself in the Lord!
