"I cry to You, O Lord; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low! Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me! Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to Your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me." Psalm 142: 5-7
We have been looking at Psalm 142 and we see that David is hiding in cave. Caves are dark places, damp place, dismal places, and the depressing places of life that we will all journey through in this life. Right now many of us feel like we are in a cave, and we feel like it says in verses 3-4; that our spirits are faint, we feel like their are traps that are all around us, we feel that no one notices us or even cares about us, because we are in a cave, spiritually, mentally and even emotionally.
But David tells us what we need to do when we are in those dark, damp, dismal and depressing times of life:
* I cry out to the Lord! I pray to the Lord, no matter what I am feeling - "The Lord dismay refuge, my protection, my fort, my shelter, my light in this cave!" Then I cry out to the Lord that He is my portion, my provider and will give me what I need as long as I am in this cave. The only way we are going to make it through the darks times, is the Lord being our Portion and Provider! "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
* I honestly admit where I am at in this cave! David prayed: "Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low!" David was real about how he was dealing with the dark times in our lives. The Lord can handle our feelings, but can we? The Lord knows what is going on inside of us, but do we? If you are struggling then you can bring it to the Lord. Another good thing when you are in a cave is to journey and allow the Lord to speak to you from His Word. We need to get real with the Lord and ourselves if we are in a dark place, damp place, discouraging place. Jesus tells us: "To come to Me all you who are overwhelmed and I will give you rest."
* I need to ask the Lord to be my deliverer! David says: "Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me." We need know the Lord our Deliverer! What do you need the Lord to deliver you from in your life today! Deliver me from the enemy of my soul that is out to steal, kill and destroy me. Be encouraged today: "The battle is not yours, but the Lord's"
* I need the Lord to bring my out of my prison, cave, so that I can praise Your name. God is big enough to release us from the prisons and caves in our lives! Jesus came to open prison doors and to set the captive free."
Start praising and thanking the Lord that He is going to bring you out of your prison or cave. He did it for David, He did it for Joseph, He did it for Daniel, He did it for the 3 Hebrew Boys, He did it for Paul and Silas and He will do it for you and me!
THANK YOU LORD, THAT YOU ARE MY DELIVERER!
