"With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord. I pour out my complaint before Him; I tell my trouble before Him." Psalm 142: 1-2
Psalm 142 if a prayer of David when he was in a cave. If you have ever been in a cave they are scary, dark, cold, and empty. Without any light you cannot see what else is going on around you. You can feel alone, isolated and lonely in a cave.
How many of us can relate to this over the last three months. We have been sheltering in place at home. People are only leaving their homes when they have to go to the store or other essential things in life. How many children, youth and adults have been at home, and isolated from school, friends, youth, church etc. How many have felt all alone, and that we feel like David in a cave.
What is David doing in this cave? What is he doing when he is discouraged, alone, maybe feeling defeated and depressed? We see the level of his pain and hurt in these verses.
* David cries out to the Lord! This is not a little tear shed, but cries out to the Lord in desperation. When you are desperate you cry, pray, in a whole different way. Desperation will cause you to seek the Lord, run to the Lord, because where else can you go when you are hiding in a cave. Are you desperate today? Then cry out to the Lord! He hears your cry today!
* David prays to the Lord! "With my voice I cry out to the Lord." In a cave when you yell, it echoes off the walls of the cave. David lifted up His voice to the Lord. Something happens when we begin to lift up our voice to the Lord. The Lord does not need to hear our voice, but we need to hear our voice - praying, reading God's Word out loud, praising the Lord. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."
* David pours out his complaint, burden, cares on the Lord in the cave. We need to pour out our complaints, burdens and cares on the Lord. When I was growing up, my church called this "praying through." You pray until you get through, keeping praying and fasting until you get the answer! If you are in a cave "Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you."
If you are in a cave today: let's learn from David to CRY, PRAY AND POUR it on the Lord!
I want to encourage us today to PUSH! Pray Until Something Happens! Because the Lord wants us to know that even in the darkest cave we are never all alone, because the Lord is always with us!
