“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.” Acts 2: 36-39
Peter gets up and preaches to the crowd that Jesus is the answer! We see the difference the Holy Spirit makes in reaching people:
There will be conviction! Conviction comes from the preaching of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit working in both the one speaking and the one hearing. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God!”
There will be a response by the hearer! They asked: “What shall we do?” They knew that they had to respond to the Word and the Spirit! Others will reject the message, but there will be people who will respond to the Word! But everyone will make a response to the Word!
There needs to be repentance! If we are going to respond God’s way then it will be repentance. Means more than just confessing our sins, but forsaking and turning from our sins!
Then there will be the receiving of God’s forgiveness of our sins! When we confess and repent of our sins, then there will be the freedom of forgiveness of all of our sins!
Then there will be the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we can be used by God to reach others! The gift of the Holy Spirit is for our children and for us still today!
How will we respond to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit in our daily lives?
The choice is up to every single one of us!
