"When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what they chief priests and the elders had said to them.  And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, "Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them....and Now Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak Your word with all boldness, while You stretch our your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your Holy Servant Jesus.  And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the Word of God will boldness."  Acts 4: 23-24, 29-31

Persecution has started in the Early Church, and they were arrested for preaching Jesus, and the miracles that the Lord was doing.  They were warned to stop speaking about Jesus.

So what the Early Church did, is the same thing that we need to do today as persecution is coming against the Church.

1.  They Prayed in Unity!  There is power when we pray by ourselves, but we need to pray together in unity!  "They lifted their voices together to God!  How did they pray?  "Sovereign Lord..."  The Early Church prayed to a Sovereign Lord!  Sovereign means - God is the Supreme Authority and all things are under His control.  God has the absolute right to do all things according to His good pleasure.  When we pray we need to pray that God's will and Kingdom will be accomplished even in the times of trial and persecution.

2.  They Prayed for Boldness!  They prayed that they would have the boldness to continue to lift up the name of Jesus!  They prayed that they would continue to tell others about Jesus and that He is the Savior.  They prayed for boldness to continue personal evangelism and to tell others about Jesus.  We need this today, Lord give us boldness not to stop talking about Jesus.  Jesus is the only answer and we are to tell others about Jesus.

3.  They Prayed for God to display His Power!

We need to pray that God will confirm the preaching of His Word with powerful signs, wonders, miracles and healing.  We need His Power in the church and in our lives today!  We need to believe that God can use every one of us to be vessels of His power to a lost and dying world.

#4.  They Prayed and the Holy Spirit filled the believers and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.  When the Holy Spirit fills us it is for the purpose to speak God's Word to people that need the Lord.  The Holy Spirit is not just about making us feel good when we come to a church service, but to make us USEFUL IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD!  Lord fill us with the Holy Spirit so that we can "Reach our City and Touch the World for Jesus."

Think about the impact that could happen in our city if we prayed this kind of prayer?  Lord, do it again!
