"Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Man who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?" And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions....But God said to him, "Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?" So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God." Luke 12: 13-15, 20-21 Jesus answers this man's question about possessions, money, and material things by giving the Parable of the Rich Fool. Jesus talks about a man who has been blessed with prosperity. He has an abundance, and says what shall I do? So he tears down what he has and builds bigger barns to store up his wealth. So that he can take life easy, and eat, drink, relax and be happy for the rest of his life. But then the Lord says to him: "Fool! This night your soul is required of you. So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God."Jesus is talking about the priority of our lives. That we can be so caught up in this world, but we have no time for heaven or eternity. We are so focused on living here that we have no time for living there! We are so focused on self, that we have no time for the Lord, worship, the Word, Ministry, Church or giving to God's Kingdom. Everyone of us will need to make the choice are we striving to be rich in this world, or striving to be rich towards God. Are we looking for abundance in worldly things, or in spiritual things. There is nothing wrong with money, things, possessions, having a home, accumulating things. The problem is "The love of money, is the root of all kinds of evil." We must evaluate our hearts and see what or who do we really love in life? God blesses the person that will know how to handle the things of this world. God's Word tells us over and over: "I have learned the secret of being content, in all situations." God blesses the person that focuses on "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these other things shall be added unto you."Lord, help me to make the choice to be rich towards God and learn that God will supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
