Blessed are you who are pure, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets." Luke 6: 20-22

Blessed - means a favor or gift of God that He has freely given to you. A special favor, mercy or benefit because of our relationship with God. How many of us want God to bless us?

We pray blessing over our lives, families, our church, our nation.

But blessed does not mean the same as happiness. Happiness comes from external things. Things can make us happy or sad. People can make us happy or sad. Money can make us happy or sad. But the blessing of God really is something that is internal. But when God blesses us it really means: A blessed person is now whom God makes satisfied, joyous, peace and content, not because our circumstances are good, but because of Jesus living in our lives.

Look at our verses today - these things will not make us happy necessarily but when you have the presence of Jesus you will realize that you are blessed because Jesus is with you through these situations.

"Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God." Being poor in life, health, wealth, emotionally and spiritually may not make you happy." But when you realize your need, emptiness, poverty - you then realize how much you need His presence, His peace, and His provision in every area of your life.

"Blessed are you who are hungry, for you shall be satisfied." When you are hungry you become desperate. I am not just talking about physical hunger, but spiritually hungry (fasting). We become desperate for His presence in our lives.

"Blessed are you who weep NOW, for you shall laugh." We read "Sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning." We may me be weeping, crying, grieving now, but in the midst of our pain, the presence of Jesus is what is blessing us and helping us through this process of life.

"Blessed are you when people hate you, reject you, revile you, and insult you." When we face these things, we realize that when we serve the Lord it may be a lonely walk, but if we have Jesus living in us, then we are blessed!"

Lord today, help me to remember that I am blessed because of You! Help me Lord to count my blessings and be thankful that You are the only One that can truly bless me today and every day!
